5 Tons of Flax

What the deuce!

followup to Burke’s Connections

Posted by Jon on 14 June, 2007

I just started watching Connections ep. 1, following my own advice from the last post, and was struck by a couple things, probably “just coincidence”, but, but sort of Jungian synchronicity given the general topic of the episode. Burke is talking about the technology trap we live in – the interconnected web that keeps us alive, but which makes us vulnerable to any disruption in its functioning (thus my linking of it to peak oil, etc.). The disruptive crisis he uses as an example (of the hidden delicacy of our lives) involves, among many other factors, an airliner called Scandanavian Air flight 911. As he speaks, he is on the roof of the World Trade Center towers in 1975.
